Anything is better than the direction of politics since 1980. That would imply how much they make determines what they charge. Under that logic, I think we'd be paying about $0.80 per gallon for gasoline right now. Prices are set by supply and demand. The price of gas just went down because we stopped buying it at $4.00 a gallon, not because of anything Bush did. We used less gasoline in a month for the first time since the 70s.

It's long, but it's worth reading. Check out his blueprint for change. The highlights (although it's sort of like repeating what he says in his speeches) are as follows:

1) You get $1000 tax cut.
2) You get a tax credit if you own your home.
3) Obama will double funding for after-school programs, expand the Family Medical Leave Act, provide low income families with a refundable tax credit to help with their child-care expenses, and encourage flexible work schedules.

4)Obama will reinstate pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) budget rules, so that new spending or tax cuts are paid for by spending cuts or new revenue elsewhere.

5)Cut Pork Barrel Spending
Obama will cut skyrocketing pork barrel spending projects by forcing more transparency about who is requesting projects and what the projects would accomplish before Congress votes to approve them.

6)Cut Down on Tax Haven and Tax Shelter Abuse. Obama will build on his bipartisan work to penalize companies that abuse the tax code and stop the use oftax havens.

7) Repeal Bush Tax Cuts for the Wealthy. Obama is committed to repealing the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.

He goes into great detail in the blueprint, but that's a good starting point for you. McCain doesn't have anything remotely this elaborate.Benhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03930891817475864085noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26499513.post-88399722249348069052008-08-29T09:56:00.000-07:002008-08-29T09:56:00.000-07:00ps... change my mind on anything...I am a swing vo...ps... change my mind on anything...I am a swing voter right now.EJLhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12210410585024163474noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26499513.post-69205350860637700002008-08-29T09:55:00.000-07:002008-08-29T09:55:00.000-07:00It's my understanding that he is going to lower th...It's my understanding that he is going to lower the family tax credit or try to eliminate it and do away with the child care credit.

that is what puts a bullet in my finances.

I thought that the Bush tax cuts this year were stupid. People that make over 200k proabbly have a right to bitch, but if they don't like it, they can go make over 200k in another country...oh wait, other countries will tax them even more. Eh, I'll just deal with their whining.

Have you read "The Blueprint for Change" on Barack's website? I always want to punch people who say "Oh, he has all this stuff he wants to do, but doesnt tell you how he's gonna pay for it, duh...guess that means taxes...derrrr."

He outlines, specifically, how everything gets paid for. Will it work? We won't know until it's put into effect. But it is paid for, and without raising taxes.Benhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03930891817475864085noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26499513.post-84388820272306203702008-08-29T09:24:00.000-07:002008-08-29T09:24:00.000-07:00I don' tthink I attack his character as much as I ...I don' tthink I attack his character as much as I attack his policy. I have always stood firm that I believe Obama is a good man. I think he is destined for great things. I just don't know if he is ready to be President. His policies are going to cost us dearly.

Which ever man gets in, they have a load of debt to deal with, and Asia is sitting there salivating trying to buy up us holdings and lend money ect. Economics is the issue at hand.

I find it hard to trust McCain, and I know that Obama is a brilliant speaker, however, he does not write his speaches (Who does these days)
But I have to look past the speech and find the content and the research to say that it will work.

Hel yes people want change, we are a younger generation, but don't make promises you can't keep.

like I said. I haven't had the energy to sift through it today.

Posted a response to yo over on my blog.

I agree, I have a lot more homework to do on her too. One thing is clear though. He was all set to take Romney until Obama passed on Hillary. I can promise you this is his second choice, and it's a political one. Obama/Clinton = McCain/Romney.

I'm not as down with the Obama kool-aid as you might think. What I really wish I had were more choices. I loath and detest our two-party system. Mostly, all I need to know is what life has been like for the last 8 years, and that McCain voted with the leadership 90% of the time. That's enough to swing me to Obama. It certainly doesn't hurt that he's an amazing orator.

I also believe the ability to inspire is the most important quality in a president. He's got that. Presidents don't make things happen. We do. And We've forgotten that somewhere along the way.Benhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03930891817475864085noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26499513.post-70383467411541401092008-08-29T09:13:00.000-07:002008-08-29T09:13:00.000-07:00I don't like fighting ...worthy debate is another ...I don't like fighting ...worthy debate is another thing.

I am torn though this time.
