If you want to smoke that is your choice. Do I care if you smoke...no! I even occasionally may take a puff from a friend. I quit smoking about 3 years ago. I used to bartend, wait tables and club all the time, so I socially smoked all the time. But once I got a desk job, got married and had a baby, I gradually quit. I am not a hypocrite, but I did make a choice not to expose my child to smoke. What pisses me off is the fact that the smoke from someone else makes it's way to my child's face. Explanation. We went to the zoo this weekend...the zoo...a family oriented place. (Children everywhere) You would think that people would put their ciggies out for a couple of hours or take the deadly puff away from their children....NOOOOO! We were walking and this woman was puffing away in one hand and holding her child in the other. Whatever, you want to expose your beautiful innocent child to the cancer stick, go ahead, but don't hold your cigarette close to my stroller or my friend's stroller. And when I try to walk away.....let me. Stupid people like this make me want to yell at them. (But I was in DC and you never know who you are yelling at.) I love the smoking ban in restaurants, I don't want to inhale tobacco when eating a $25 steak and neither does my son. The club thing is a different story...You go to a club with booze and loud music, ciggies come with the territory, but I doubt my child will be there holding up a forty shaking his groove thing with me at the club! Come on people...if you don't care about yours...next time think about how much I might care about mine!!! Isn't he beautiful!
Go ahead and comment about this one....please!

Well, at first I was ready to hate you for this, but I am pleased to say that you have managed to be anti-smoking in a way I approve of.
I understand you don't want your child to get a face full of smoke, which is why I dont smoke near kids. I would smoke at the zoo, when I am in a deserted area.
I dont even like kids to see me smoking, because hey, kids are impressionable.
I dont think smoking belongs in a restaurant, but if you are going to a bar and grille, you gotta suck it up. Its a bar. Eat elsewhere or get your food to go. That is what people do at bars. Just because it has a restaurant too doesn't make it any less a bar.
I've always equated smoking to cursing. If you wouldn't curse in an area then dont smoke there. But if you are at a bar expect it.
In restraunts where there is smoking we just asked to be sat farthest away. I don't condemn smokers...then I would be a hypocrite....
I don't care one way or another if you smoke......
I just care if you subject my child to it. That is why I was so mad. People were in a place where there are children everywhere and it just seemed like we couldn't get away from cigarette smoke.
I do hear ya. You're absolutely right. And I think you for not being a fundi-non-smoker!!!
Dear Garnish...
Just visited your site against South Park. Your pretty funny for a person who hides behind their Christian faith to take South Park down and then condemns me for being a pro-lifer... Of all the battles you chose to pic...you chose south park. Your a dumb cow!
For my readers...yes I am pro-life, however, I choose not to entertain the pro-choice/pro-life debate. It is never a clean cut debate and I tend to get heated. I can only assume Mr. Garnish read my comments on another blog that asked where is the choice of the child? That is what I ask in this blog posting...where is the choice of my child when strangers blow deadly cigarette smoke in his direction. That is all.
Would I ever turn my back on a friend that needed advise on the abortion topic ....never. I do not believe in counseling people with my biased opinion, but rather, I believe they should know the truth of all aspects. And should they need a friend to turn to if they decide to abort a fetus...If I was a true friend and a true Christian, as I am...I would be that friend. My beliefs are just that...mine. Everyone is entitled to thier own opinions.
So suck on that big fat one Mr. Garnish!
Dear Garnish
I wasn't impressed....and I don't feel threatend to say the least.
He is beautiful -- and you're doing the right thing. My boys are 10 and 5. I used to do the club scene too, smoked for a couple of years, and gave it up well before I had a family. I can't imagine living without 'em!
Good post ellie. Like your blog. I like that you invite debate. It's good when people actually stand up for their children. As for garnish you can't be serious. You must be having ellie on. I've been to your blog you are no match for her intellectually if you are actually being serious about what you post. You would lose big time.
