This spells T*R*O*U*B*L*E;

POLICE TO SEAL OFF D.C. NEIGHBORHOODS
Compared to it's size, Washington DC's crime rate is in your face all sorts of crazy. It's ranked # 7 on the highest murder rate in the country.
Well in order to curb DC Crime, they are trying to implement a new program called 'neighborhood safety zones'. The attempt is to seal off rough neighborhoods in order to prevent the spread of crime.
The Examiner reports "Under an executive order expected to be announced today, police Chief Cathy L. Lanier will have the authority to designate “Neighborhood Safety Zones.” At least six officers will man cordons around those zones and demand identification from people coming in and out of them. Anyone who doesn’t live there, work there or have “legitimate reason” to be there will be sent away or face arrest..."
So say you were going to a neighborhood to sell drugs, you would be turned away if you didn't live there. But don't you think that they already have drug dealers living in their neighborhoods? What about profiling? What about search and seizure?

Although I agree that the neighborhoods in question.. I nor my family, would step a pinky toe into them. BUT, in the United States, you have a right to move about the country free. Who is to say who can go where? I think this sets up a certain precedent. What about rich neighborhoods looking to deny access to someone coming in? If you don't have the right car...turn around!

Granted, the police are working this task force, but it is a can of worms just waiting to be opened.

I think the police department needs reform. Did you know that if a police officer touches a criminal and the criminal cries about it, the officer is automatically releived of duty first and investegated second? The criminals have more rights than officers. That is why no officer wants to patrol DC. Not only that, but they are underpaid by a city that is #7 in the United States!!! Would you want to work as an officer, being scrutinzied and underpaid in DC.

Neither would I!

Count me out....I know I'd bust someone's head after my partner handcuffed'em.

Hell, I'd go broke from being relieved so much.

The Nazis did a very good job of this. There were called concentration camps, not safety zones. Before them, the Slavic countries also did a great job. The areas were called ghettos and they made sure all the Jews were in there.

I agree that the police help. I'm surprised that they don't have more officer involved killings. DC has one of the most corrupt local governments in the nation, starting with that crack dealer, Marion Barry. Remember, he was re-elected after he got out of prison. That tells you something about his constituancy.
