would a bipartisan nation be so bad?

No, actually I don't think so....

Think everything would stay in "check" better?

If by "bad" you mean "impossible" and you weren't speaking rhetorically, I regret to inform you that it is, in fact, impossible.

You're basic republican wants the government to exist in the loosest sense of the word. The market will correct itself, government shouldnt interfere with our lives, etc. Generically speaking, they favor loose gun laws, are pro-life, and want low (no) taxes.

I, on the other hand, while not a true democrat, understand that people as a whole cannot be trusted to do the right thing. This is why businesses go very, very wrong without regulation (left to their own devices, they are proven thieves). I also understand that when our founding fathers wrote the second amendment, they were talking about a weapon that fired a single shot, and took about 2 minutes to load. They made the constitution changeable for a reason--like if guns ever advanced to the point where they would be deadly accurate from a mile away, and could fire several hundred rounds per minute, maybe, just maybe some regulation might be called for. Also, while I myself am pro-life, how other people live is none of my goddamn business, and it's up to them to live with their choices and work it out with God. Once, I even drove a friend to the clinic so she could have an abortion. I like to think Jesus would do the same thing. Women should always have the choice.

No doubt some of what I just said pissed you off. And if it didnt, there's plenty that would be. Our nation, one day, will fall because United we cannot stand. Call it "irreconsilable differences" if you want.

I really think we ought to just have two governments. The red states can be red forever, the blue states can be blue forever. If you don't like your government, go to the other color. I think sooner or later, one of two things would happen:

1) One would prevail clearly as the better way of life, and we would slowly reunite.

2) more likely, we'll discover that each party is more or less the same dog and pony show, with a different coat on the ringmaster. No noticeable difference.

If number two happens, its time to talk about a revolution. As a country, we deserve better. I think this has been one of my better rants. I'll leave you with something a good friend left on my blog when i went mainstream again...

"About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.

The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:

1) Bondage to
2) spiritual faith, to
3) great courage to
4) liberty, to
5) abundance to
6) selfishness, to
7) complacency to
8) apathy, to
9) dependence, and back to bondage."

Where do you think we are as a civilization now? (Hint: The average lifespan of a civilization is 200 years).

Pretty sure we're smack dab in the middle of apathy right now.

I don't think that I am a true republican Ben...

I am for gay rights
I am pro-life but am for abortion regulation b/c no one is ever going to win the argument.

I am for govt. regulation of business, especially like was we are in.

I am for stricter gun laws. What is the need for someone to own a aka or some automatic weapon.

I am for bringing troops home in a timely manner while trying to preserve the people of Iraq.
I don't think it's right to blow up the place and leave them to clean it up by themselves.

I think there is so much right with both parties and so much wrong with both parties.

I am for stricter immigration, but believe we are an immigrant nation and something should be done about helping the illegals already here.

I am for higher taxes on the wealthy. lower taxes on seniors and poor, and 'normal' taxes for middle class. (if that exists)

I am for healthcare reform but not universal health care.

I think our troops need better taken care of, especially when they leave the service, they need options and help with transition. If they do that for prisoners why can't they afford the same treatment for our troops.

I am for the death penalty. I am for stricter laws on all criminals.

I am against affirmative action and believe people should excel based on credentials and experience.

I am for the three strikes law.

I could keep going. What do you want to know... I will tell you yes or no.

I took a test today to tell me if I am democrat or republican.. it told be I was republican but only answered 2 questions off from being democrat. What do you think about that?

I don't get angry at what you say, if we don't discuss it we will never learn from it. I am here to learn b/c I don't know it all.
