Too close to home...

I don't know what could posess someone to kill their children, but in the last month there have been two cases very close to home that have made news headlines. Last night a man killed his two children and then himself at a farm near my home. My sister in law knows the family and is devastated. If you want to kill yourself, I don't say "oh go ahead..." but I would say that before you harm your innocent 1 & 3 year old. The news story is here.

Then last month, again, near my home, a couple's 4 children were found murdered in their beds and their father was hanged in the home. The mother is missing, so police don't know if she is the murderer or if the father did something to her then his children. The story is found here.

I don't know what type of mind set you have to be in to commit such an awful and unforgiving act. It blows my mind when people hurt children, especially the parents. We are their protectors, the children look to us to take care of them.
I really can't find the words to express how I feel.

Before I knew about the first story, I took my son to the park last night. I watched him play and run around so carefree and unknowing of the dangers in this world. Then I noticed a man sitting by himself, no children. I wondered what he was doing there. I then got this horrible fear that someone could try to snatch my child up from me. I watched him play and noticed how unbelievably beautiful he was. My fears grew. There is so much in the world we as parents have to be leary and aware of. It shouldn't be like that. But it is... and it brings saddness to my heart.

That is very sad and heartbreaking. I also never understand how anyone could purposely hurt a child.
Obviously the person(people) are not in a solid state of mind.

Remember last summer when that pedophile was on the loose with 2 kidnapped boys somewhere in my province?

Hey it just cut me off. Let me know if my first comment came thru.

I was saying remember last summer when that man had 2 boys holed up in an abandoned farm house.
Even though my kids were 14 and 12 at the time, I had to reign them in and totally limit their freedom.
It is so scary as a parent to know that someone would want to hurt your children.

Ellie, how big is the state of Maryland?

My whole province has under a million people in it. I will check and see how big my province is ( how much land etc)

In 2005 the census was 5,600,388. I don't know the land size. We are a smaller state compared to most.

WOW!!!

well I was just able to locate how big my province is and this is what I found

Approximately 651,900 square kilometres (more than a quarter million square miles) in size. Contrary to popular belief, one half the province is covered by forest, one-third by farmland and one-eighth by fresh water.

and like I said we have just under a million living throughout the whole area.

I can't imagine what it must be like living in a place where there is so many people.
We may be stuck in the prairies and have cold winters, but it is honestly such a good, nice fairly safe, clean place to live. I can't imagine not having all the fresh air and beautiful skies that we have. We are also the sunniest province is all of Canada.

That is why I like the town I live in. You can see the stars, smell clean air. It isn't so far from the city though. Maryland is only 32,133 square kilometers. Crazy.

I am on the registered sex offender email. If one moves in around me, I will know about it.

It is sad that parents have to worry about things like that in today's society.

That is why I firmly believe people who do things like this should be prosecuted and put away to help protect the others out there.

Unfortunately these people exist. I don't know if it is some kind of deep depression that does this, but they have to be in some altered state of reality to get to the place where they can even contemplate this kind of action.
