The Immigrant Debate....

When my hubby and I went to Cali, we were driving back from Catalina to LA. All these signs were posted up and down the highway. Stupid me asked my hubby why there weren't cross bridges or something if so many people crossed the road. He politely informed me that they were signs warning you that illegals attempting to cross the border might run out on the highway. Wow! They have to make signs for that crap?
My friend and I got into the debate on the phone about "building a wall" . Me personally, I think it is a stupid idea. Then some old lady/fart, interupted my cell conversation and said "I think its a great idea...they are taking money from us hard working Americans" I politely said "Well your wrong and when were you invited into this conversation!" She kept rambling about her tax dollars... Hey stupid old lady, what about my taxes that pay for your medicare heart medication and your social security? Do you think I will see one freakin' dollar of social security by the time I am your dumb ass wrinkly age? Why can't I invest my social security into a 401k instead? Huh you stupid diaper wearing broad? Tell me that!

I am not saying something doesn't need to be done about illegal immigration, but building a wall in front of Mexico isn't going to stop illegal immigration, and making illegals that are already here pay back taxes in order to get amnesty is stupid too...where are they going to get all that money? Why give them false hope? I just think we need to have a better long term plan that doesn't alienate the United States and that doesn't portray us as people who think we are too good for Mexican's to live here.

And what about my social security???

You've opened a can of worms...and I'm about to anger a bunch of people by stating my opinion on the subject.

There's no such thing as an illegal alien. This country was founded on immigrants. Our statue in the new york harbor (well, technically new jersey) states,

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me.
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

Think about what that means for a minute, and think about how your family came here themselves. Think of what you made of the opportunity. Think of what the immigrants of the future can accomplish.

Do they take jobs? Yeah, if you're in the landscaping, dishwashing, or fruitpicking business, you might have competition. If you have a college degree (or even a high school diploma), I wouldn't sweat immigrants just yet.

The best part is the smartest immigrants WILL go on to college in the united states and become our resource. During world war II, the best german scientists became british and american citizens.

I say welcome them with open arms. If you feel threatened by competition, you're living in the wrong country anyway. Capitalism is all about competition. Here's an idea--instead of working your hardest at keeping them out, work your hardest at making yourself a more valuable employee.

Trust me, the economy will be just fine.

That's what I said to the dummy in the store... I doubt that the immigrants were really taking her job, unless she was taking out my trash or mowing my grass!

Nicely put Ben. Very awesome of you!

Doesn't Bush also want to build a wall to keep out Canadians...I mean terrorists too?
It will be a sad day for me if I have to get my ID card....in April, when we crossed the border in Washington to head to Seattle for the day, the US border guard was such a sweetie and we had the best experience EVER entering the US. { ok, he was cute, flirty and told my husband that it should be illegal for him to be travelling with such 2 beautiful girls {me and the Girl}, so I could be biased!!}

I agree with Ben, and my heart breaks for the children that die on the way to trying to enter. I once saw a documentry about how many of them die from the heat and lack of water around the Texas border.

You think the Texan border is bad...think of all those that die crossing from Cuba into here.

It will be interesting in the months to come seeing what happens with Cuba now that Castro is sick.

My dad came here from Mexico when he was 17 years old. He then joined the US Army and now here I am: I can barely speak spanish but enough to get by I guess. So with my background , I just wanted to say that I agree with you and Ben.

Thanks for the comment....a while back I mean!

A big clap for Ben, he said it well. And hmm I like your music when I visit and that is HIGHLY unsual. I am not a fan of music on sites at all but since your taste matches my own I can deal with it.

I try to pick music that is low key and fits multiple personalities.

I agree...Ben was very well spoken.

Wow...you must not have many republicans that read this site. I was sure I'd get attacked, not receive kudos...

I am a republican Ben... and I HATE Mr. Bush... and I also thought that aside for the sucky sucky...Mr. Clinton wasn't half bad. ( I think my family would disown me if I said that at the dinner table)
I look at a Presidents "Good Intentions" as well as his politics. I don't think that Bush has the greatest of intentions for anything. My baby bro was sent to Iraq twice...he is the real hero as well for all our service men & women. Bush in my opinion is a F***tard!
I like his wife though.
